Conclusions
To the authors' knowledge, this is the largest clinical study of the effectiveness of the Ulthera System for rejuvenation of the lower face. At day 90, improvements were reported by two-thirds of patients and by nearly 60% of blinded reviewers. Outcomes were better in patients with BMI≤30 kg/m2.
Face Tightening
Results
Subjective and objective analyses showed 63.6% and 72.7% improvement at the two-month evaluation, respectively. Histologic evaluation by hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Masson's trichrome staining showed increased collagen fibers in the lower dermis and between fat layers.
Discussion and conclusions
Intense focused ultrasound can be used as a non-invasive skin tightening technique in Asian patients. It induced collagen generation in the dermis and fat layers and was effective and safe in our study population.
Body Tightening
Results
Skin elasticity measured via a Cutometer was significantly improved 12 weeks after treatment at all treated sites (P<.05). Both IGAIS and SGAIS showed significant improvements 12 weeks after treatment. Immediately after treatment the mean NRS score was 3.00±1.586, but no pain was reported at 4 and 12 weeks post-treatment. No serious adverse effects were observed during the follow-up period.
Conclusion
HIFU safely and effectively improves skin elasticity and clinical contouring of the face and body.
Skin Elasticity
Results
Physicians' evaluation showed clinical pore improvements in 86% and 91% of the IFUS-treated sites using 1.5-mm and 3.0-mm transducer, respectively. There was a positive correlation between improvement in elasticity and pore improvement grades. All treatments were well tolerated without significant side effects.
Conclusion
IFUS using 1.5-mm or 3.0-mm transducer was safe and effective for reducing enlarged pores in Asian skin with an improvement in skin elasticity.

Photos will be taken before marking out the area to be treated. Treatments are performed in a studio (or at your home), lying or sitting, using conductive gel and a hand held HIFU extension, and are between 20-90 minutes duration. hiLIFT™ is non-invasive and can be very relaxing with minimal discomfort experienced. At the conclusion of the treatment, after photos will be taken and a plan discussed for further treatment areas if desired.
For most people, hiLIFT™ is relatively painless. Some describe it feeling like popping candy on the skin! At no time should discomfort be higher than a 4/10 to ensure the body is in a healing (rather than stress) response. Different layers of the skin also register sensation differently.
Immediately following treatment, 10% of your final result will be visible and results will continue improve up to 90% more over the next 90 days. Skin will look lifted, activated and glowing. For one week prior to treatment, avoid all retinol, glycolic acid and salicylic acid products on the skin. If you are on blood thinner you MUST have written clearance from your doctor to show the practitioner.
Please arrive with a clean face or body, and exfoliate 48 hours prior if desired.Some people experience temporary numbness or bruising, but side effects usually subside within a few days. Some slight redness or swelling may also occur, if in doubt contact your practitioner.
